Certification Requirements

The IROM-C has a written portion and practical portion, candidates must pass the written portion of the IROM-C before they can progress to take the Practical Exam. In order to sit for certification you must:

  • Be an active dues-paying member of AAOM

  • Have a current and active license as a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)

  • Submit the application and pay the applicable fees

  • Submit by email to info@aaomed.org a copy of your current active State license

  • Be approved by the AAOM Certification Committee

To become certified, members must successfully pass first the written exam, and second the practical exam of the AAOM certification process.

Minimum requirements to pass the AAOM Certification:

  • 70% Score on the Written Certification Examination

  • Passing grade on Practical Certification Examination (Pass/Fail)

Certification Examination Details

The IROM-C examination consists of two parts:

1. A 100-question written examination ($400.00 US$) is offered twice annually. Testing is available at the AAOM Annual Conference. Candidates must achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the written certification examination in order to progress to the practical portion of the program. Candidates are allowed three hours (international language candidates are allowed three and one-half hours) to complete the exam. At present the written examination includes the following topic breakdown:

  • Anatomy

  • Assessment / Diagnosis

  • Philosophy / Definitions

  • Safety / Solutions

  • Treatments

2. The practical test ($500.00 US$) is offered only at an international workshop and mission in the Fall of each year. This portion of the exam evidences applied knowledge and skill to two body parts. This portion is proctored by two IROM-C physicians and is evaluated with a Pass / Fail basis. Topic areas evaluated are:

  • Diagnostic Technique

  • Diagnosis / Procedure

  • Palpation / Marking

  • Solutions / Needles

  • Preparation / Aseptic

  • Needle Technique

  • Bedside Manner
